By KRISSI HUMBARD — Hyattsville businesses have once again made it on the annual “Best of D.C.” list.

Every January, Washington City Paper gives readers a list of categories and asks them to name the best restaurants, dry cleaners, hospitals, music venues and more. Staff at the publication also make picks for their favorites.

Tanglewood Works, a boutique that specializes in funky painted furniture, playful home decor and handmade gifts, was the area’s biggest winner. Readers once again chose Tanglewood Works as the winner of the “Best Handmade Home Decor” category. Tanglewood also took spots in “Best Green Business,” “Best Handmade Accessories,” and “Best Handmade Eco-Friendly Products.”

Community Forklift, Hyattsville’s nonprofit reuse center for building materials, architectural salvage and antiques, won again for “Best Green Business.”

Area chain Busboys and Poets, which has been in Hyattsville since 2011, took top spot in the Readers Picks’ for “Best Gluten-Free Menu” and “Best Restaurant When You Pay.” The restaurant also won third place for “Best Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant.”

Pizzeria Paradiso, which opened their Hyattsville restaurant last summer, took the third spot for “Best Craft Beer Selection.”

Artist & Craftsman Supply, which has a location in Hyattsville, took top spot for “Best Arts & Crafts Supply Store.”

Pyramid Atlantic Art Center got some love from the Washington City Paper staff for its book arts fair. The Pyramid Atlantic Book Arts Fair was picked as the “Best Gathering for Nerds.” The paper’s Creative Director Stephanie Rudig said, “There is nowhere else in the area, and probably the universe, where you can meet the maker of the world’s largest functioning pop-up book, learn how to tool gold leaf, buy a one-of-a-kind hand-bound book, and hold a journal made out of human hair.”

A number of Hyattsville businesses have shown up on the list in past years.
