Snow falls in downtown Hyattsville on March 14. Photo by Krissi Humbard

BY KRISSI HUMBARD — Hyattsville was blanketed by a few inches of snow on March 13-14, thanks to a powerful Nor’easter named Stella. The storm caused minimal damage in the city. Public schools were closed. Department of Public Works (DPW) crews worked all night and day to clear the streets.

Tonight, we can expect very cold temperatures, with a few flurries possible. There will be a chance of high winds, as well, so if you have to go out — bundle up! Standing water will freeze, including on roadways, so use caution while driving. The city says Hyattsville DPW crews will be working tonight to treat the streets for snow and ice. Prince George’s County Public Schools announced that all schools and administrative offices will open Wednesday, March 15, on a two-hour delay.

The city was fairly quiet this afternoon, with some businesses closing early or deciding to close for the day.
