BY KRISSI HUMBARD — The City of Hyattsville has updated its residential parking zone program.
The update has been in the works since 2013 when the city evaluated its residential parking program. As of April, the city’s Residential Parking Ordinance requires residents and guests to have a permit to park in a residential parking zone for more than 30 minutes during the times posted on signage in the zone. A residential parking permit is provided at no cost to residents within residential parking zones. Permits are good for two years.
Residents in zones 4 and 12 can now register for permits. In May, the city will open the application cycle up to zones 2, 6, 9A and 13. In June, the city will open the application cycle up to zones 1, 8 10 and 11. Applications for zone 9B will open in July.
Once a zone’s application has opened, residents can submit an application in one of the following ways:
- Online: Residents can set up up a one-time account on a secure portal and complete the form electronically. Please note that applications submitted online will be processed within two business days.
- In person: Residents can print and complete the residential parking permit application form and bring it to the third floor of the City Building (4310 Gallatin Street) Monday – Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please note that applications submitted in person will be processed within five business days.
- By mail: Residents can print and complete the residential parking permit application form and mail it to the City of Hyattsville, 4310 Gallatin Street, Attn: Residential Parking Zone Program, Hyattsville, MD 20781. Please note that applications submitted by mail will be processed within five business days of receipt.
Each household in a Residential Parking Zone will also receive a booklet of 100, one-day guest passes, as well as one five-day guest pass. Additional passes are available upon request.
